This page explains the customer-support, download, computer-transfer, license-recovery, update, compatibility, and authorized-use policies for Benchwork Builder Pro™.
These policies supplement the Benchwork Builder Pro Software License and Terms of Use. If a conflict exists, the Software License and Terms of Use control.

Support Response Time
Support inquiries are normally answered within two business days.
Business days generally exclude weekends and United States federal holidays. During unusual demand, travel, illness, service outages, or complex technical investigations, a response may take longer.
The response-time target applies to the initial reply and does not guarantee that every issue will be completely resolved within two business days.
Some problems may require:
- Additional information from the customer
- Screenshots or error details
- Reproduction and testing
- A replacement build or software update
- Assistance from a third-party service provider
Computer Transfers and License Resets
Each Benchwork Builder Pro personal license is issued to one individual purchaser for use on one computer.
Computer transfers are handled manually and are not automatic.
A transfer or reset may be requested when:
- The licensed computer is replaced
- A computer suffers permanent hardware failure
- Windows is reinstalled and the computer is no longer recognized
- The licensed device is retired
- Major hardware changes cause the device fingerprint to change
Before attempting activation on a replacement computer, contact support at jamesmmrbs@gmail.com.
Include:
- Purchaser name
- Checkout email address
- Order number, when available
- License key
- Reason for the transfer
- Confirmation that Benchwork Builder Pro will no longer be used on the previous computer, when that computer remains accessible
Purchase verification may be required.
A transfer request may be denied or delayed when there is evidence of:
- License sharing
- Repeated unexplained device changes
- Simultaneous use on multiple computers
- Commercial or organizational use
- Fraudulent purchase activity
- Violation of the Software License and Terms of Use
A computer transfer does not transfer ownership of the license to another person. The original purchaser remains the licensee.
Lost License-Key Recovery
A lost Benchwork Builder Pro license key may be recovered after the purchase record has been verified.
Send the request from the email address used during checkout whenever possible.
Include:
- Purchaser name
- Original checkout email
- Approximate purchase date
- Ecwid order number, when available
- Any other information that may help identify the purchase
For security reasons, a license key will not ordinarily be sent to an unrelated email address without additional verification.
Lost-key recovery does not create a new license or permit use on an additional computer.
Download Problems and Replacement Links
The original customer download link is normally available for:
- Seven days after purchase
- One download attempt
Customers should download the ZIP package promptly and retain a secure backup copy.
When a link expires or a download fails, a replacement link may be provided after the purchase is verified.
Replacement-link requests should include:
- Purchaser name
- Checkout email
- Ecwid order number
- Description of the download problem
A replacement link does not include a new or additional license.
Replacement downloads may be refused when there is evidence of unauthorized sharing, excessive requests, fraudulent activity, or violation of the license terms.
Customers are responsible for maintaining backup copies of:
- The downloaded installer package
- Included PDF documentation
- Saved Benchwork Builder Pro project files
- Final exported drawing PDFs
Project files and backups should be stored in a normal user folder such as Documents or in a secure personal backup location. Files should not be stored inside the application installation folder.
License Activation and Revalidation
Initial activation requires:
- Purchaser name
- Valid individual license key
- Internet connection
- Registration of the authorized computer
- Acceptance of the Software License and Terms of Use
Benchwork Builder Pro normally revalidates the license approximately every 30 days.
When revalidation fails only because of a temporary internet connection problem or temporary licensing-service outage, the application may allow a limited seven-day grace period.
The grace period does not apply when the licensing service reports that the license is:
- Invalid
- Revoked
- Expired
- Registered to another computer
- Being used beyond the permitted device limit
- Otherwise unauthorized
The computer should be connected to the internet and Benchwork Builder Pro restarted to retry validation.
License Misuse and Unauthorized Sharing
Benchwork Builder Pro personal licenses may not be shared.
The software, installer, license key, project files, documentation, or generated drawing sets may not be provided to another person, business, club, school, organization, or online group except for the limited personal-project fabricator permission described in the Software License and Terms of Use.
Unauthorized activity includes:
- Installing the software on multiple computers
- Sharing a license key
- Posting the installer or documentation online
- Uploading files to shared drives or file-sharing services
- Distributing generated drawings for reuse by others
- Using the software for paid design or fabrication
- Using the software for club, school, institutional, or business projects
- Reselling, sublicensing, or transferring the license
- Bypassing or interfering with activation or validation
- Reverse engineering or extracting the software’s proprietary methods
A license may be suspended or revoked when misuse is reasonably suspected or confirmed.
Revocation for misuse does not create an automatic right to a refund.
Customers needing commercial, organizational, club, educational, or multi-user rights must obtain separate written authorization before using the software for those purposes.
Software Updates
Benchwork Builder Pro version 1.x customers may receive bug fixes and minor improvements for version 1.x when such updates are released.
Version 1.x updates may include:
- Software defect corrections
- Printing or export improvements
- Compatibility adjustments
- Documentation revisions
- Minor interface improvements
- Licensing-service corrections
- Security or reliability improvements
The release of any particular update is not guaranteed.
A future major version, such as Benchwork Builder Pro version 2.0, may be offered as a separate paid product or paid upgrade.
Unless otherwise announced, an existing valid version 1.x license key is expected to remain valid for version 1.x replacement builds.
Customers may be required to accept revised Software License and Terms of Use when a material licensing or policy update is issued.
Updates may be distributed through:
- Ecwid customer-download links
- Email notices
- The Model Railway Techniques website
- Direct support communication
Customers should download updates only from an official Model Railway Techniques or Model Railroad Benchwork Store source.
Operating-System and Hardware Compatibility
Benchwork Builder Pro is designed as a 64-bit Windows desktop application.
The currently published system requirements should be reviewed before purchase and before installing an update.
Reasonable efforts will be made to maintain compatibility with the supported Windows configurations identified on the product page.
Compatibility cannot be guaranteed with every:
- Future Windows version
- Windows security update
- Printer or printer driver
- Antivirus program
- Firewall configuration
- Display setting
- Graphics driver
- Computer manufacturer configuration
- Virtual machine
- Emulator
- Restricted or managed computer
- Third-party service
Benchwork Builder Pro is not currently supported as a native application for:
- macOS
- Linux
- ChromeOS
- Android
- iPhone or iPad
- Windows ARM devices
- Shared servers or multi-user systems
Customers using an employer-owned, school-owned, managed, restricted, or Windows S mode computer should confirm that they are permitted to install and activate third-party Windows desktop software before purchasing.
Printer and PDF Support
Benchwork Builder Pro includes functions for:
- Printing the current sheet
- Printing the complete drawing set
- Exporting the current sheet as a PDF
- Exporting the complete drawing set as a PDF
Normal printer output depends partly on Windows, the selected printer, the printer driver, the Windows print spooler, and local printer settings.
When direct printer output is unavailable because of a local printer or driver problem, customers may export the drawing set as a PDF and print it through their normal PDF viewer.
Customers are responsible for confirming:
- Correct paper size
- Portrait or landscape orientation
- Print scale
- Page margins
- Complete output
- Legibility of dimensions
- Printer calibration when exact scale matters
Always review the printed or exported drawing set before cutting material.
Project Files and Data
Benchwork Builder Pro project files are stored locally in locations selected by the customer.
The Model Railroad Benchwork Store does not automatically store, synchronize, or back up customer project files.
Customers are responsible for:
- Saving projects regularly
- Using clear filenames
- Maintaining backup copies
- Retaining final exported PDFs
- Protecting their own project data
- Verifying that the correct project version is being used
Use Save Project As when creating a new variation that should not overwrite the original project.
Software Defect Reports
A suspected defect should be reported with enough information to reproduce the problem.
Include:
- Software version
- Windows version
- Project inputs
- Selected benchwork type
- Imperial or metric setting
- Drawing sheet involved
- Exact steps that produced the issue
- Screenshot or error message
- Whether the issue occurs repeatedly
A defect report does not automatically mean the software is defective. Some issues may result from local printer settings, unsupported hardware, corrupted files, Windows restrictions, antivirus interference, or incorrect project inputs.
When a reproducible software defect is confirmed, a correction or replacement build may be issued when technically and commercially reasonable.
Policy Changes
These policies may be revised to reflect:
- Software updates
- Changes in licensing services
- Support-process improvements
- New compatibility requirements
- Legal or regulatory requirements
- Changes to product delivery
The current version published on the Model Railway Techniques website will apply to future support requests, subject to any legally required consumer rights.
