At The Model Railroad Benchwork Store, we pride ourselves in not only providing quality Model Railroad Benchwork at the most affordable prices, but also unparalleled customer service.
It is especially rewarding when our customers reach out to us after their purchase giving us updates and progress pictures. Such is the case with Tom and Dana from Arizona, who graciously shared some pictures with us after their recent purchase of one of our 48 x 96 Complete Table Kits.
Follow along below as they outlined their progress from bare table to near complete O Scale Model Railroad.
Hi James,
We hope this email finds you well. In November of this year, we received the 4×8 benchwork you built to our specs. We wanted it higher than most layouts so we could really watch the trains run. We’re glad we did.
As promised, we took photos along the way. The progress was noticeable every day. Maybe because the layout’s smaller, or maybe we were determined to get it done before the end of the year.
The Framework
When the benchwork arrived, we only waited a few days to start on it. Everything went well, thanks to your detailed instructions and the parts all being clearly marked. For two non-carpenters, we completed the assembly in about two hours, diligently following instructions. We never had to do anything twice. Slow, steady, and methodical were the keywords that day.
Adding a Scenic Base
Next, we headed to Home Depot to buy some artificial putting green “grass”. It provides an excellent base and is thick enough to provide a sound barrier for the trains.
Laying the Track
After that was fit and secured with small nails, we built the track plan that we got from a friend.
Using all K-Line “Shadow Rail”, everything went together well. No wiring required (all powered by one lock-on) and no switches or anything else requiring power. Simple and easy for two novice model railroaders.
Bringing it To Life With Scenery
Nearly all the scenery is now complete, but we need a better transformer. By early January, trains will be running around the track. We’re getting really excited about that!
With your help and our friend that sold us the track, we are having fun building scenery. Without my wife’s help and support, this dream would have never happened.
Here are some photos of the process. We hope you enjoy them. We wish you continued success and the best of everything for 2025.
Tom and Dana.
