Licensed Woodshop/Fabricator Program (UK, EU, Australia & Southeast Asia)
A repeatable flat-pack kit product line for capable woodshops and wood workers
If you run a cabinet shop, joinery shop, CNC woodshop, or small manufacturing operation, this may be a practical way to add a repeatable product line you can produce in batches, price consistently, and scale over time.
We are The Model Railroad Benchwork Store / ModelRailwayTechniques.com (USA). We design an engineered kit system used to fabricate flat-pack baseboards/benchwork kits and complete table kits with legs. We license qualified partners to build and sell these products locally under clear standards and strict IP protection.
This page explains how the opportunity can benefit you, what’s involved, and how to apply.
What you would be selling (two product lines)
You can offer one or both product lines depending on your shop capacity.
1) Benchwork / Baseboard Kits (simpler)
- Flat-pack kits (typically no legs)
- Faster production, simpler packaging
- Ideal for modular layouts and customers who already have supports/cabinets
2) Complete Table Kits (higher value)
- Includes leg assemblies and bracing
- More parts, more assembly guidance, higher order value
- Better suited for shops comfortable with repeatable assemblies and consistent QC
Most partners start with baseboards/benchwork kits first, then add table kits after the workflow is smooth.
Why this is a good fit for the right shop
This program is built for shops that like repeatability:
- Batch cutting and predictable part flow (especially with CNC/panel processing)
- Clear part identification and assembly method (less “custom chaos”)
- Straightforward quoting once your process is dialed in
- Opportunity to grow into custom requests later (often higher margin)
- Tips For the Small Shop Interested in our Authorized Commercial Use Program – The Model Railroad Benchwork Store
The best outcomes come from partners who can consistently hit quality targets: squareness, hole accuracy, clean edges, and packaging that protects parts in transit.
Why niche products can be more profitable than general woodworking work
General woodworking can be feast-or-famine: lots of quoting, one-off jobs, and constant specification changes.
A niche kit system is different:
- Customers expect standardized options
- You can build a small SKU list that sells repeatedly
- Your production gets faster with each run
- Word-of-mouth referrals are strong when the product is reliable
In short: this can become a dependable “second lane” of revenue for an existing shop.
Recommended launch plan (keep it simple)
Phase 1 — Start with a small SKU list
Instead of listing everything, begin with a tight, practical lineup:
Benchwork/Baseboards (starter lineup example)
- 6–10 sizes that cover small, medium, and expansion modules
Table Kits (add later)
- 4–6 sizes once your baseboard workflow is proven
A small inventory reduces mistakes, simplifies packing, and helps you master repeatable quality quickly.
Phase 2 — Price for early adoption, then adjust
A common strategy:
- Enter the market as “best value,” not “cheapest”
- Once demand becomes consistent, raise prices to match your capacity and lead times
Phase 3 — Custom work becomes the profit multiplier
Once customers trust your standard kits, custom requests usually follow:
- special depths/lengths
- unusual corners
- lift-outs/access sections
- integrated support options
Custom orders can become your highest-margin work once you understand what local customers ask for most.
Fulfillment options: shipping, pickup, delivery
Most shops succeed fastest by choosing two of these and being very clear on your website:
- Local pickup (low cost, low risk)
- Local delivery (great upsell—especially for table kits)
- Shipped flat-pack (widest reach, requires strong packaging)
We can provide baseline product details to help you plan fulfillment, including:
- product names and descriptions
- SKU structure
- typical shipping weights/dimensions (baseline references)
- packaging notes and best practices
(You will still verify carrier rules, duties/taxes, and local compliance.)
Two licensing tiers
You can choose the program level that fits your goals.
Commercial Use License
Best for shops that want permission to build and sell, without co-marketing.
Includes (high level):
- Shop drawings
- Cut list generator
- Quick start guide
- Assembly instructions + material recommendations
- Photos and detailed method explanations
- Examples of common jigs
Authorized Builder License (recommended)
Best for shops that want co-branding and potential leads via our website.
Includes everything above, plus:
- Product list details (SKU, baseline shipping weights/dimensions, etc.)
- Directory listing on our website (while active and in good standing)
- Co-branding rights (per brand rules and approval)
- Updates/improvements to the cut list generator as we make them
- Ability to purchase add-on product licenses as they become available
Note: Licenses are issued country-by-country. One agreement covers one country unless expanded in writing.
Regions we are actively seeking partners in
We are currently seeking qualified partners in:
United Kingdom
A strong fit for joinery/cabinet shops that want a repeatable kit product line and can ship domestically.
European Union (EU)
Best suited to shops that can standardize packaging and handle multi-country shipping within the EU when appropriate.
Australia
Excellent fit for local production due to shipping realities and the advantage of domestic fulfillment.
Southeast Asia
We are open to capable manufacturers and woodshops serving their local markets in Southeast Asia. Preference is given to shops with:
- strong quality control
- consistent materials sourcing
- reliable packaging and logistics
- ability to handle local customer support
Important: Each license is country-by-country and non-exclusive unless stated otherwise.
In depth: why this is a viable and lucrative opportunity
Minimum Standards (required)
To protect the end customer experience and preserve brand integrity, all licensees must follow minimum standards for:
- materials and hardware
- workmanship and fit/finish expectations
- squareness and accuracy
- packaging and damage prevention
