BNSF 314552 BI-MAX PAIR
Another interesting concept that railroads have tried are articulated auto racks as seen in this photo of BNSF 314552. The concept being less moving parts and less maintenance costs.
BNSF 314476 BI-MAX PAIR
Another set of paired articulated auto rack cars. Note also the distinctive ballast color used by what was originally the Santa Fe railroad in this area of California near San Francisco.

This closer view shows the accordion connector between the cars similar to that used on passenger equipment.

UP 516952 is an ex Southern Pacific auto rack and definitely shows its 30 plus years of service.

Another silver colored auto rack car, this one is relatively tag free. Both cars appear to be fairly new.
TTX 885592 AUTO RACK
TTX 885592 has very little rusting on it, you can see the streaks from the top panels where they attach to the inside posts. The paint is a bit sun bleached also.

30 plus years of service are evident on this ex Southern Pacific auto rack car now operated by the Union Pacific Railroad. As a bonus there is low target switch stand in the foreground of this photo.
